Congress Begins to Wrap Its Mind Around Intergenerational Poverty

Senators Susan Collins (R-ME) and Martin Heinrich (D-NM) have introduced the Two-Generation Economic Empowerment Act pushing the federal government to collaborate and innovate with states on intergenerational poverty. View Senator Collins’ remarks. Utah’s Senator Orrin Hatch, too, has joined the effort. This new focus from Congress comes as a result of testimony delivered in 2015 by Jon Pierpont, director of the Department of Workforce Services.
