Utah Legislature Leaves Thousands of Workers without Workplace Protections

Workers at companies with less than 15 employees still have no legal recourse for biases against their gender, race, sex, religion, pregnancy or other protected classes. A bill that would have extended protections to workplaces with more than five employees failed to advance in the Legislature. As of September, 2017, 271,794 Utah workers — about 18 percent of the state’s labor force — work at businesses with less than 15 employees, according to the Utah Department of Workforce Services.
